One of the best investments into your passion

Even if you think you know your way around Elektron gear, Dave showers you with hidden tricks and straightforward frameworks to optimize your ideation, workflow, live performance, sound design, and mixing.

I never buy courses. As a self-taught YouTube student and manual reader, I've always believed that getting into the trenches, devouring Elektronauts threads, and occasionally banging your head yields the results you need. But after upgrading from DT to DT II and hitting a creative block, I decided to pull the trigger. Yes, it's pricey at first glance (I cancelled my cart more times than I'd like to admit), but holy fucking shit (sorry Dave), it's worth every penny and a better ROI for your craft than whatever piece of gear you're currently eyeing.

The course is dense and, in my opinion, requires you to sit in front of your DT II and work alongside the videos, pausing to experiment before returning. You'll come back to refresh your memory on particular functions. But that's a feature, not a bug: while extremely newbie-friendly (even if this is your first drum machine ever), there's no fluff or cookie-cutter content. Even the introductory chapters had information that was completely new to me.

One small flag: Dave's new course platform is a major improvement over clunky Gumroad, but I wish there were an option to download videos locally. I know the internet probably isn't going anywhere, but I prefer having local access to knowledge like this, especially something I'll be returning to for years. I'd be happy to pay extra for that option. Still, I'd buy this course again without hesitation.

Worth every penny

Still only in the early part of the course but have already learned so much! I’ve had the Digitakt II since last May and made slow progress myself with YouTube tutorials. I’d highly recommend this to everyone who wants to learn more about these amazing machines. Dave’s teaching style is perfect for me, everything explained clearly and at the right pace.

Exceeded my already high expectations a 2nd time!

I had high very high hopes based on Dave's YouTube videos, his live sets, and the DN2 course. I'll say pretty much the same thing I said in my review for the DN2 course: I was blown away by the thorough and systematic approach he took. I went back through the DT2 manual after completing the course like I with the DN2 manual after completing that course. This course will bring you up to speed with the DT2 much faster than just reading the manual, and you will learn more than the manual provides. It's a huge breath of fresh air to confidently pay for some proper training and come away feeling you got more than your money's worth - and no, I am not a paid reviewer, and I am not an AI slop-bot :P Thank you Dave!

Got me up to speed with the Digitakt II very quickly.

I recently picked up a Digitakt II and quickly got frustrated bouncing between random YouTube tutorials, trying to find an approach to the complexity that actually made sense to me. There’s a lot of good information out there, but it’s scattered, and there’s no real through-line.

Dave Mech’s course changed that. He walks through each aspect of the DT2 in a clear, methodical way, using real projects you can dig into and reverse-engineer. Being able to see how things are built (and why) made everything click much faster.

What really stands out is how well he teaches. Dave clearly knows the Digitakt inside and out, but more importantly, he knows how to explain it in a way that encourages experimentation instead of just copying settings.

If you want structure, clarity, and a creative way into the Digitakt, not just tips and tricks, this course is absolutely worth it.

Breathe of Fresh Air!

The sea of endless doom scrolling and one off videos on YouTube can be cast aside. Dave delivers not only the focus and skills in a clear concise manner but much more. There is some theory and education that you can take with you to any synthesizer, sequencer or devise when creating a new song or live performance.
I am not the quickest in following along always and the ability to pause and rewatch or just think about and tweak things a bit differently then go back to the lesson and reset to the parameters Dave had put out. Plus, there are the files you can download to listen and delve into what you learned. I also really enjoy that there is a lesson and homework as it may be to create on your own.
I am getting the Digitone II course next. I hope there is an Octatrack training one day here. Don't forget the mapped out sheets available too.
I paid for my course so this is an honest review and if you are on the fence the money is well spent the lessons are there to go back to (I for one can forget how to do something if I am away from it for a minute).
Thanks Dave! - Keep coming with new courses please! Rock On!
